Automatic trimming system with built-in GPS now available in Australia.

Officially launched at the Miami boat show in February, the Active Trim automatic trimming system from Mercury Marine is now available for local boaters.

Active Trim is designed to simplify boat handling and improve engine performance by automatically determining the optimum trim setting for all situations and types of boats.

Since it was first unveiled last year, Mercury says it has tested the system with numerous boaters, dealers and boat builders, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Boaters have likened Active Trim to moving from manual to automatic transmission on a car.

“What puts Active Trim ahead of the competition is its patented integrated GPS-based control system which takes into account both your boat speed and rpm when deciding on the ideal trim position,” said Paul McLean, Mercury’s director - accessories.

“It also solves issues with the engine trimming up too early or too late while the boat is getting up on a plane. It’s a great system that’s a step ahead of the rest.”

Active Trim features five selectable trim profiles that accommodate nearly any boat application from high-performance boats to family runabouts. Owners select the best profile for any application and can then personalise Active Trim to their driving style and/or compensate for changes in boat load, operator preference and weather conditions.

There is no need to manually enter trim settings/rpm into the system and drivers are able to easily disengage and re-engage it as needed using the manual trim buttons.

Active Trim is compatible with any new Mercury Outboard or MerCruiser engine with SmartCraft capability, and the system can also be retrofitted to earlier model engines.
