BLA Trade Talk: new applications for Optimus EPS

Take control with Optimus EPS.

The revolutionary Optimus Electronic Power Steering system is now available for stern drive and inboard engines.

BLA Distribution has been the exclusive distributor for the SeaStar Solutions range of high quality boat steering systems throughout Australia and New Zealand for over 30 years. During that time, the brand has built up an enviable position as the preferred OEM and aftermarket steering system, both in cable and hydraulic applications, for a wide array of boats.

Last year SeaStar Solutions made a major breakthrough in terms of how we steer and handle our boats with the introduction of its revolutionary Optimus Electronic Power Steering (EPS) for single, twin, triple and quad outboard engine applications. BLA and SeaStar Solutions have now launched the Optimus EPS for inboard and stern drive applications up to 70 feet.

“SeaStar Solutions Optimus EPS has already proven itself with our modern high powered outboards and has been very successful in both consumer and commercial applications,” said Mike Folkerts from BLA. “Boats such as the recently commissioned 1,400hp Outlaw Boat utilising a quad outboard configuration by Horizontal Falls Adventures is enjoying the added control and comfort that electronic power steering offers. Naturally we are very pleased to be launching the EPS option for both stern drive and inboard boats in our region.”

The captain of a vessel knows how important it is to have command of their yacht or power boat. Optimus EPS now gives them the steering control, performance and comfort they expect.

“With Optimus EPS you can take command of your boat without having to struggle for control,” said Folkerts. “The incredible feeling you get when you are behind the wheel of a boat equipped with Optimus EPS is the result of an innovative array of technology and engineering.”

Lock-to-lock steering ratios and wheel tension can be programmed to change with engine RPM via the digital CANtrak display. At slow speeds, Optimus EPS can be set to reduce the number of turns lock-to-lock to make it easier to steer. Then when negotiating through traffic or in a tight spot, EPS can activate smaller ratios of the wheel giving precise control.

Each component has been designed to complement each other (helm, CANtrak, PCM, pump and cylinder) resulting in a seamless experience of steering control in virtually every situation on the water. The high level of engineering also extends to the reliability of the system, with quality materials, careful manufacturing and redundant systems that all stand up to the rigours of life on the water.
