Zhik flies the flag for a DAME
Local clothing brand short-listed for prestigious marine design award.
Local sailing apparel brand, Zhik, will be flying the flag for Australian marine products in this year's DAME Design Awards at the upcoming METSTRADE show.
The short-list of 64 products, selected from a field of 122 entries, was unveiled by the judges last week. This year saw entries come from 22 countries. The nominated products will be featured in a special DAME 2017 display area during the show.
Zhik has been selected in the clothing and crew accessories category for its Isotak X extreme ocean sailing apparel. It will up against products from Ocean Rodeo in Canada as well as Rooster Sailing and Blood Red from the UK.
New Zealand products from Hella Marine with its EuroLED 95 down lights and Vesper Marine with its deckWatch app are also in contention for an award.
“I’m very positive about what we are seeing at the 2017 edition of the DAME as we have so many good entries to judge,” said DAME jury chairwoman, Birgit Schnaase. “The overall standard has improved again compared to last year’s entries, and there were many items of interest for all aspects of naval architecture, exterior styling and interior design.
“The marine sector’s end users are changing – older and younger generations often have different ideas about what they want from a boat and their marine equipment, with younger people often forgoing their own boat and preferring more accessible products. Wealthier customers’ tastes are diverging even more from those of other users. We are seeing welcome evidence that products are being developed to address these market changes.”
The DAME winners will be announced during the Breakfast Briefing on the opening day of the METSTRADE Show at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre from 14-16 November.
