Strong demand for luxury yachts fuels search for extra staff.

Luxury yacht builder, Elandra Yachts, is mounting a nationwide search for experienced boat builders in response to what it calls “ unprecedented levels of growth”.

The Queensland-based builder has already added new employees to its team this year and is now seeking skilled shipwrights, cabinet makers, fibreglass laminators and marine engineers to meet a surge in demand for its luxury motor yachts.

Elandra Yachts managing director Luke Durman said the company expected further sales growth in the coming year in the wake of the lower Australian dollar boosting overseas demand.

“Elandra is heartened to see positive signs of an economic turnaround, with boating once again becoming a viable pastime as more people invest in a luxury lifestyle,” he said.

“We are committed to leading the recovery of the local market by meeting a steady rise in demand for high-quality, hand-crafted motor yachts.

“Elandra is offering experienced boat builders a chance to be part of a growing team that will produce the next generation of Australian-built and designed luxury sports yachts for the global market.”

With $3.5 million committed to research and development over the next two years, Elandra currently employs 25 staff at its 3,000sqm yard at Arundel on the Gold Coast. The company plans to build four to six boats in the 2016 Financial Year, including three 53s and one 49, with its first US delivery of an Elandra 53 scheduled for mid-2016.

The first hull of the new Elandra 49 Sport Yacht has recently been completed and is set to debut at the Sydney International Boat Show in 2016.
