AS part of the World Cup celebrations, Walcon Marine, the company that builds the temporary marinas for Australia’s leading boat shows, is building a “floating soccer field” in Cockle Bay at Sydney's Darling Harbour.
Walcon Marine Australia is providing a unique forum to complement an associated big screen and massive sound system for the many soccer (football) fans in Sydney.
“When we were first approached with the concept we had to think about it but, after around 30 seconds we thought, why not?” said Walcon Marine Australia GM Andy Goss.
The football field is constructed in a similar manner to the Sydney International Boat Show in that the field is constructed “up river” and then floated into Cockle Bay.
“This is one of those lovely projects that we are proud to be associated with as it enables us to show the versatility of the Walcon floating pontoon system,” said Goss.
“I am not sure how the ball boys and girls are going to retrieve ‘out’ balls though; perhaps they will be in kayaks?”
As soon as this event concludes Walcon will be preparing for the massive temporary floating yacht harbor that provides the Sydney International Boat Show with its hallmark venue in the heart of the Sydney CBD.
