Volvo Penta offers latest turbo diesel at Melbourne

VOLVO Penta will display its new D3 turbo diesel for sterndrives at the 50th Annual BIA Melbourne Boat Show next month.

The new D3 offers Volvo Penta’s latest common rail turbocharged diesel technology in a compact package promoted as “better at everything” than its competitors and predecessors.

Offered in four models from 140 to 220 hp for sterndrives, and five models from 110 to 220 hp for shaft drive, the D3 is designed to be more powerful, cleaner, quieter, lighter and more compact than its rivals.

The 5-cylinder design combines the latest common rail fuel injection and piezo-electric injectors with a Variable Geometry Turbocharger for optimum acceleration.

Volvo Penta’s comparative figures for the 220 hp D3 show its competitors to be 25 to 40 per cent heavier, significantly wider and higher, and in most cases substantially longer.

The D3 range is offered as original equipment or as a re-power option in place of similarly powered diesels and popular petrol V8s, typically equipped with Volvo Penta Duoprop drive with twin counter-rotating propellers.

Its EVC (Electronic Vessel Control), shared with larger Volvo Penta models, provides for options including dedicated instrument displays and Powertrim Assistant and, in twin installations, joystick docking control similar to that available with the Volvo Penta IPS system.

Volvo Penta’s Victorian dealers will host the stand at the Boat Show, offering expert advice and the opportunity to deal personally with their nearest dealer.
