Victorian BIA applauds Minister's ramp announcement

THE Boating Industry Association of Victoria applauded the recent announcement by Water Minister Peter Walsh of the Building Northern Native Fisheries project.

Timed to coincide with the opening of Victoria’s $180 million dollar a year Murray cod fishing season, Minister Walsh’s announcement that the project would construct seven new boat ramps and upgrade two more, while improving land based fishing access and increased fish stocking rates was received warmly by Victorian boating industry members.

BIAV president David Heyes said: “This is the first time a Victorian government has attempted to improve regional recreational boater access on such a numerically grand scale and the Minister has guaranteed the Victorian boating industry a much needed boost for Christmas."

“Victorian boat manufacturing and dealerships will certainly benefit from this project, as will regional townships struggling to recover from the effects of prolonged drought and subsequent flooding.”

“Best of all it will improve the ability for families to get away for a day of boating and a greater chance to catch a fish. What could be better than that?”
