MARINE biometrics manufacturer FinScan announced an OEM partnership with Pegiva boats, a specialist boutique boat building company based on the Gold Coast.
With two classic models available , the “Retro Sun” at 7.5m, and “The Eclipse” at 10.1m, FinScan will be supplying the Bio eStart – Fingerprint engine starting technology, with the added protection of the new SAFE engine starting mode as standard fit .
Both models are powered by Mercruiser’s 350mpi Horizon engine package. The Retro Sun, will be fitted with the Bio eStart SOLO for the one engine configuration, and the Eclipse will be fitted with the Bio eStart DUO, for the two engine configuration.
TMQ Electronics FinScan’s Queensland distributor first began talking with Pegiva about integrating the FinScan technology shortly after the release of the SAFE engine starting mode earlier this year.
Rob Larder TMQ Electronics national sales manager said: “ The FinScan product, and the Pegiva brand are a good fit, and a perfect example of the advantages and style the FinScan technology can bring to a boat. Once we demonstrated the features and increased safety of the Bio eStart with the integrated safety mode, it was an obvious decision for Pegiva to fit the technology standard.”
To start the engine of a boat fitted with the Bio eStart, a programmed finger is simply presented to the fingerprint sensor for matching, then a press of the green START button will start the engine. When the stop button is pressed, the engine will be shutdown and the system armed with the start button disabled, all without the worry of keys left in an ignition.
In addition, a new feature to the Bio eStart, called ESM mode (Elevated Safety Mode), helps protect occupants of gasoline powered boats from accidental explosions on engine start up. All gasoline powered boats with enclosed engines have the potential of causing an explosion if vapours build up due to a fuel system failure.
FinScan's ESM mode takes advantage of the electronic control the Bio eStart has over engine starting, the boats blower, and the integrated FinScan gasoline Fume / Vapour detector to deliver the safest, centralised engine starting process available. The Bio eStart with ESM becomes a critical safety device by taking the operator through the engine starting process, disabling engine starting if dangerous conditions occur, and taking necessary action automatically to remove the vapour threat from the boat.
