NSW Roads and Maritime Services approves $4.5 million in grants

NSW Roads and Ports Minister Duncan Gay has announced Roads and Maritime Services has approved more than $4.5 million in grants to provide new and improved boating facilities across NSW.

The $4.53 million in funding under the Roads and Maritime Services Better Boating Program (BBP) will support 52 projects in regional NSW and four boat ramp developments in Sydney Harbour.

“By supporting new and improved boating facilities, Roads and Maritime Services is putting customers first in our boating communities statewide,” Mr Gay said.

“It is estimated that more than 1.5 million people go boating in NSW each year and making access to our waterways safer and more convenient is good news for the community, he said.

“This grant funding recognises the important role boating has to play in our communities and the economy.”

Mr Gay said a highlight of the 2011-12 grants program was $800,000 for a major upgrade of the Lyne Park boating facility.

“Lyne Park in Rose Bay provides a unique opportunity to improve access to the heart of the finest Harbour in the world,” he said.

“This grant combines with a $350,000 grant last year to provide more than a million dollars for the project to support the boating community of Sydney.”

The Lyne Park project would see the replacement and widening of the existing boat ramp and the installation of two pontoon facilities to vastly improve safe and convenient access.

The 2011-12 BBP will support 52 projects in regional NSW and four boat ramp projects in Sydney Harbour.

“These grants are about planning for the future and making sure the community has safe access to facilities which help them get out and about on our waterways,” Mr Gay said.
