The Helm app invites marine businesses to connect with customers.

Boating insurer Nautilus Marine has launched a new app called The Helm which aims to connect marine businesses with boating customers when they are searching for product and services.

The app allows boaters to build a digital profile of their boat, adding details about the model and any unique features such as accessories or special equipment as well as upload photos. The next time the boater has need for a particular marine service or product such as a repair or a replacement part, they simply enter the request and the app automatically connects with thousands of marine business and potential suppliers.

The database of connected businesses is based on Nautilus Marine’s network of certified repairers in Australia with which it already works closely to provide claims-related repair work and services for policy-holders. However, the app is also open to any marine business in Australia to register their details and connect with potential customers in the same way.

Nautilus Marine CEO Lyndon Turner said the company already had a strong connection with marine trades around Australia through its repair network. The new app is designed to help those businesses – and others – broaden their market reach.

“It allows the boating industry to better connect with boat owners and hopefully grow their businesses through that connection to clients.”

Initially the app will be preloaded with details of Nautilus Marine’s repairer network but Turner said it is easy for any marine business to visit the website – www.thehelmapp.com – to create their own profile and start receiving customer requests.

“It won’t cost them anything and they will get access to requests for service from clients all around the country,” he said.

As the business grows or adds new services, users will be able to update their profile as to what they offer, log-in to view requests for service, provide quotes and use the app as a means to grow different parts of their business. Turner said the aim of the app is not just to help clients and boaters get the most out of their boating experience but also to benefit the wider industry.

“The industry has gone through some challenges in the last few years, so what we want to do is make sure it has a way of accessing more clients and if they can grow as businesses as a result that’s a good situation for clients.”

For boaters, the app offers a number of additional functions such as a digital record of service and repair work carried out on their boat which can be referenced in the event of a claim or when selling the boat. Users will also have access to a range of exclusive benefits and updates via The Helm which are unique to Nautilus Marine.

The app is free to download from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store for both iOS and Android devices and can be used by both Nautilus Marine policy holders and non-policy holders alike.
