Drop everything, the annual Gone Fishing Day is on again.

Make a date for Sunday October 14 when the annual Gone Fishing Day is on again with a variety of events being held around the country to encourage people to wet a line or two.

More than 100 registered events are scheduled to take place with many local angling clubs holding special Gone Fishing Day events. More information on the website.

In NSW, the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) will be running a series of events around the state including free how to fish sessions, casting competitions, free goodie bags with bonus fishing lures, fishing tip classes by local experts, touch tank, kids activities, RMS boating safety stand, plus Snappy, NSW DPI's crab mascot, who will also be making an appearance.

NSW DPI events will be held at:

  • Botany Bay, Dolls Point, Peter Depena Reserve
  • The Entrance North, Terilbah Reserve
  • Huskisson, White Sands Park
  • Grafton, Memorial Park
  • Queanbeyan Riverside, Trinculo Place
  • Forbes, Apex Lakeside Park

In addition there will be a host of fishing clubs running their own Gone Fishing Day community fishing events in their local areas. Check out the NSW DPI website for details.

In Victoria, more than 20 events are being held around the state – check out the VRFish website for details.

In Queensland the inaugural OzFish Unlimited Wynnum Fishing Classic is being held over the weekend at George Clayton Park, Manly, with all proceeds going towards restoring shellfish reef levels in Moreton Bay.
