Garmin head signs off with monster hook-up
Garmin Australasia GM leaves with fond memories on and off the water.
Garmin Australasia general manager Matt DeMoss – who oversaw the establishment of the global electronics brand’s regional headquarters in Sydney in 2008 – is returning to the US after his second stint in Australia.
With DeMoss having been promoted within Garmin to the position of director, Latin America/Australasia and New Market Sales, the local general manager role is being filled by Adam Howarth, who arrived from the US last month.
DeMoss said the past two years had been extremely rewarding “both professionally and personally”.
“Garmin has experienced significant growth across all its business divisions over the past few years and that’s destined to continue under the capable direction of Adam and the rest of the management team,” he said.
“We have an experienced and passionate marine team in Australia and New Zealand, which I’ve really enjoyed working with… especially ‘product testing’ our latest marine gear.
“I love to fish, so when our marine PR guy insisted on taking Adam and I on a welcome/farewell marlin fishing trip in his Bar Crusher last week, I didn’t need to be asked twice!
“Fishing off Sydney, we caught and released a huge blue marlin estimated to be well over 250kg on 15kg tackle… an unbelievably fitting end to my time here and an incredible introduction for Adam. What a monster, what a memory!”
Also a keen outdoors enthusiast, Howarth has been around the Garmin brand for nearly 10 years, previously with a Garmin distributor and for the past three years as part of the company.
With a background in product management and sales, Howarth said he was very focused on further growing Garmin’s business throughout Australasia, as well as catching plenty more fish!
