AFTER 18 months in receivership, the sale of strategically located shipyard Cairns Slipways has been finalised.
Cairns Slipways has been providing ship repair services to defence, luxury and commercial vessels for over 30 years.
The business has become part of ship repair specialists group BSE Maritime Solutions and will be renamed "BSE Cairns Slipways".
The BSE Maritime Solutions group currently operates BSE Brisbane Slipways, a ship repair facility with a 2,500 tonne slipway at Colmslie on the Brisbane River.
According to BSE business development manager Denis Maher the acquisition of Cairns Slipways will give customers rapid response docking options and provide better services for their vessels.
“With our two dockyards servicing the East Coast and the South Pacific region, we will have a more significant service to offer our Australian and international clients,” said Maher.
“Cairns Slipways is a unique marine repair and refit facility with its 1,200 tonne slipway, 60 metre drydock, 300 metres of fit-out wharfage, refit sheds and skilled work force. We are excited about the opportunity to be involved with such a tremendous site," he said.
“We are confident that with this facility and our experience the business can continue to set new standards in the repair and refit of luxury yachts, defence and commercial vessels for many years to come.”
LOWRANCE last week launched its Elite 4 and Mark 4 sounder and sounder/GPS combo units in a media event held at Narabeen Lake north of Sydney.
