BIAV honours for industry stalwarts
Life memberships awarded to Alistair Murray and John Temple.
At its recent AGM held in Melbourne, the Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV) awarded honorary Life Memberships to two industry stalwarts, Alistair Murray of Ronstan International and John Temple, formerly of Mercury Marine and BIAV.
Alistair Murray AM is a 43 year veteran of the marine industry, with 41 years of it spent at international marine manufacturer, Ronstan International, where he was CEO for 20 years and is currently chairman. Murray is an avid and active racing sailor and has been involved in numerous activities to promote the boating industry, including chairman of the International Sailing Summit, board membership of Sail America and current board membership of Australian Sailing.
He has been the recipient of many awards recognising his contribution to the marine sector including an Austrade Export Hero award, a Federal Government Centenary award, Australian Manufacturing Hall of Fame, Victorian Governors Export award, US Sailing Industry award for Outstanding Contribution, Australian Sailing Lifetime Achievement award, BIAV Industry Champion awards and an Order of Australia.
“The association is fortunate to have such a giant of the industry as Life Member,” said BIAV president, Mark Crockford. “We are grateful for his contributions to boating and the development and growth of our association.”
Together with Murray, BIAV also awarded John Temple with a Life Member award. Temple was formerly the general manager of Mercury Marine’s Australia, New Zealand and Pacific business, where he worked for 35 years and had a close involvement with BIAV.
Following his retirement in 2014, Temple joined the BIAV in a pro-bono capacity, working on a number of association projects. In 2017 he became the interim CEO of BIAV.
