BCF raises $100,000 for Australian Volunteer Coast Guard

LEADING outdoor retailer BCF – Boating, Camping and Fishing – has raised over $100,000 as part of its community sponsorship with the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard (AVCG).

The donation comes just seven months after BCF signed a community partnership agreement with the volunteer organisation. The funds were raised through BCF’s in-store “round up” initiative which enables customers to round-up their purchase price to an even dollar figure or to any value they nominate – providing a donation to the AVCG.

Australian Volunteer Coast Guard National Commodore Ray Campbell said the AVCG was grateful for the tremendous support and efforts by BCF and the response from the Australian community.

“The Australian Volunteer Coast Guard is not-for-profit and relies predominately on donations and sponsorship. This donation will provide us with much needed funds to continue our education and rescue service to the community," said Campbell.

“Our volunteers readily put themselves on the frontline for the well-being of others. The Australian Volunteer Coast Guard attends to an average of more than 350 calls in January alone each year from people who are at risk and need assistance. Without this vital rescue service the potential for serious injury, loss of life and property would be significantly increased.

“The organisation is delighted to work with BCF, a partner that understands the importance of volunteering and community safety. We look forward to continuing to work together with BCF in the future to further benefit Coast Guard volunteers,” he said.

BCF MD Steve Doyle said the retailer was delighted with the tremendous response and contribution from the community in raising funds for a vital national volunteer service.

“The community contribution has been fantastic and the fact BCF has helped secure $100,000 so far and in such a short time demonstrates the importance of the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard and how highly regarded the volunteer service is within the community," said Doyle.

“As a strong advocate for marine safety and through our extensive network of stores nationwide, BCF is proud to support the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard, whether it is by providing financial assistance or helping increase awareness of how they help protect the wellbeing and safety of all Australians.

“BCF’s 86 retail outlets across Australia will continue to act as a key point in attracting like-minded people who understand the importance of marine education, emergency marine search and rescue operations, and supporting vital services such as the Coast Guard,” he said.

As part of the ongoing sponsorship, BCF will continue its “round up” initiative, with customers across Australia able to donate money to the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard simply by rounding-up the value of their transaction to any price they nominate. All contributions received through the BCF community sponsor support program are delivered to the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard.
