Yellowfin plate boats are a serious contender in the offshore fishing market.
With a background in professional powerboat racing, Yellowfin chief boat tester Cliff Antees is responsible for putting all the Yellowfin models through their paces.
Testing with a 150hp Mercury Optimax engine and a 15 1/2x17 Mirage Plus Propeller, the 5700CC delivered a top speed of 76.2kph at 5600rpm.
“Equivalent to roughly 42knots, this is plenty of top speed in a 5.7m boat. And this hull doesn’t require maximum horsepower to deliver results, it would still pleasantly surprise with a 135hp, or even 115hp” said Antees.
Yellowfin has made a lasting impression with its exceptionally dry, smooth and stable hull boasting a 20 degree deadrise, sharp bow entry and gull-wing design.
This performance hull is not only designed to be dry, smooth and stable, it is also designed to deliver impressive results on fuel efficiency.
At a comfortable cruising speed of 40kph at 3000rpm the 5700CC is consuming 14.4Lt of fuel per hour. Combined with a 160lt fuel tank, the 5700CC delivers ample time for a fishing trip.
“At 14.4Lt per hour, that’s comparable with 4-stroke fuel economy in the same horsepower range, now that’s impressive,” he said.
The Yellowfin range has been built with strength in mind and features a self-draining tread-plate floor and fully welded longitudinal and latitudinal sub frame rib structure.
The Yellowfin range is constructed from 4mm and 5mm plate aluminium.
LOWRANCE last week launched its Elite 4 and Mark 4 sounder and sounder/GPS combo units in a media event held at Narabeen Lake north of Sydney.
