MERCURY MerCruiser’s next generation big-block marine engine is an 8.2-litre motor which, according to Mercury, produces more power and has better mid-range acceleration, lower emissions and superior fuel efficiency.
The naturally aspirated big block features high-performance aluminium cylinder heads to improve mid-range acceleration and at the same time increase power.
The 8.2L claims to deliver 380hp and its HO (high output) model will deliver 430hp. The engine runs on 87 octane and achieves remarkably low oil consumption.
Mercury said boat builder and dealer feedback has allowed improvements in access to the engine’s service points and connections, significantly simplifying installation and maintenance.
“Not only did the team achieve superior performance while adding a catalyst, they maintained fuel efficiency and improved serviceability without adding cost,” said Mercury MerCruiser’s project manager Derric Drake.
The new 8.2L MerCruiser engine will be available in sterndrive and inboard configurations with Base and HO ratings.
The new models are compatible with the host of MerCruiser options, including Axius, SmartCraft and SeaCore.
LOWRANCE last week launched its Elite 4 and Mark 4 sounder and sounder/GPS combo units in a media event held at Narabeen Lake north of Sydney.
