Mustang sports cruiser brand makes a much-anticipated return at the 2011 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show with two boats on water. First time display of electric propulsion at Sanctuary Cove
For the first time in Australia, the public at the Sanctuary Cove boat show will be able to inspect a working display of a Mastervolt inboard electric propulsion motor drive assembly.
Eco Boats Australia in association with Power Protection Solutions - Mastervolt Australia supplies electric inboard motors, hybrid drives, sail drives and submersible POD motors up to 20kW or custom solutions with higher capacities. In addition to propulsion, some systems can also supply power to the batteries, battery chargers and battery monitoring devices.
Boat owners are seeing the benefits of electric motors to power new or existing craft. Electric motors are quiet, clean, reliable and economical to run. Especially for displacement vessels such as yachts and traditional timber boats it makes sense to convert to electric drive, as relatively little power is needed to bring a boat up to its ‘hull speed’ Electrics drives can be powered by many battery sources like, Lead Acid, AGM, Gel and Lithium batteries. Also available is the choice of generator options for the long distance cruiser.
All systems come as a complete plug-and-play package consisting of motor, controller, connection cables and display. We can also advise on a suitable battery bank and charging packages. Please visit stand 161 to see the advantages of Electric Propulsion.

Icom’s show releases
Exhibitor Icom Australia is releasing the MA-500TR Class B Automatic Identification System (AIS) Transponder and the IC-M412 Marine VHF Transceiver. The MA-500TR offers a cost-effective entry option into chartplotting. AIS is an automated tracking system used by ships, marine emergency service organisations  and other maritime bodies. It allows vessel positions and courses to be displayed graphically on screen and provides important information such as MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) numbers, speeds and vessel names. The MA-500TR unit features one depth for 30 minutes water ingress protection and is made in Japan to strict quality standards. As a transponder rather than a receiver, it also sends out the user’s information which allows a vessel to be visible to other vessels. A GPS receiver is included in the box while the unit features a full dot-matrix display. The exhibitor is also showcasing the IC-M412 Marine VHF Transceiver. This supercedes the IC-M411 model and can integrate with Icom’s MA-500TR AIS Transponder. This unit can continually monitor channel 16 while scanning in the event that a distress call comes through. The DSC-enabled VHF radio is important for water safety as many Australian marine rescue organisations use DSC to monitor coastal activity. A total of 100 MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) numbers can be programmed into the transceiver.
