Sacked NSW Ports and Waterways Minister, Joe Tripodi

Joe Tripodi sacked

NSW Premier Nathan Rees sacked Ports and Waterways Minister, Joe Tripodi, from the cabinet in a surprise move for the NSW boating industry.

‘We were surprised and shocked at the dismissal of Joe Tripodi, NSW BIA has worked closely with Joe Tripodi over a long period of time," said NSW BIA GM Roy Privett.

"He is the first Minister in over twenty years to show a keen interest and determination to improve recreational boating opportunities and displayed real concern for our industry's development."

Privett said Tripodi has been tremendously knowledgeable, decisive and professional in BIA dealings.

"His leadership and reform of NSW Maritime in many administrative and approval processes has led to a substantial improvement in NSW land/water interface planning policies and the delivery of a new consent process and a viable commercial lease policy for marina operators in our industry, although marina rental policies remain unfinished business," said Privett.

"I believe Joe Tripodi was proud to champion our cause for the great benefits our industry can deliver. Certainly his enthusiasm and ability to deliver has been a boost to business confidence and improved opportunities for recreational boating pursuits."

Premier Rees yesterday announced Heathcote MP Paul McLeay has been given Tripodi's old portfolio of Ports and Waterways.

"A change in Minister will slow the momentum but it is vitally important the industry keeps putting its agenda forward," said Privett.

Sunday's reshuffle also claimed Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald who has been replaced by Minister for Land Tony Kelly.
