2010 Perth Boat and Leisure Expo

Organisers and exhibitors claim strong sales in the fibreglass category, with several retailers saying this year’s show had been one of the best years.

Robert Gibellini of Portside Marine said he was thrilled to sell his newly released Blackwatch 22 centre console as well as his 26 Express and 28 Flybridge along with a multitude of inflatables. Lou Jay from Bonney’s Ski shop said that his Malibu and Axis boats were extremely well priced for the show and as a result he had sold in excess of his expectations. In particular, the West Australian made boats, were a big hit with the buyer and one manufacturer, according to the BIAWA, now has a waiting list for his product because it is in such high demand.

New product concepts were also an attraction to discerning buyers. On the imported front, Nic Di Toro of Aquasports Marine, said he would be delivering many of his New Zealand manufactured Campion Boats to new owners within a few days of boat show. Some of our Chaparral boats came straight from the wharf to the show and will be delivered to their new owners within the next week, according to Geoff Ellis from Offshore Marine.

The Integrity Yachts IMG Boats from Dubai, which were shown for the first time in Australia at the Perth Boat and Leisure Expo may be out of reach for many, but a high level of interest was shown by those who appreciate fine craftsmanship and a unique marque. It is expected that two of these craft will be permanent residents in Perth before the vessel is next shown at the Cannes International Boat Show in three week’s time.

Aluminium boats were in abundance and Brett Martin of Saltwater Marine also reported one of the best years for Trailcraft. Dinghy world were inundated with enquiries about its open punts and big dingies. The Honda Shop and the Boat Business were also on hand for the repowering business.

BIAWA said the leisure aspect of the Expo was a welcome addition for patrons. Diving and fishing which have been an integral part of the August show since 1971 were well represented this year with the Perth Diving Academy and Australasian Diving Academy parting with their merchandise for sale.  A range of fishing gear from the very affordable to the ultra expensive and everything in between was also on display.

With some positive feedback from both patrons and exhibitors, organiors are claiming the 2010 Perth Boat and Leisure Expo a success.
